The common reasons and the fix
| Reason | What the reviewer sees | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Opt-in cannot be verified | No page or form showing how a person agrees to texts | Publish the form with an unticked consent box, the disclosure text, message frequency, rates notice and STOP and HELP instructions |
| Privacy policy or terms lack SMS language | A policy that never mentions text messaging | Add a section on messaging and a clear statement that mobile information is not shared with third parties for marketing |
| Brand details do not match | Legal name, address or tax ID differ from the website and the registry | Make the website, the registration and the business record say the same thing |
| Use case does not match the messages | Promotions sent under a customer-care use case | Register the use case you actually send, or split into separate campaigns |
| Vague campaign description | 'Marketing messages' and nothing else | Say who receives messages, what they say, how often and why the recipient expects them |
| Sample messages are incomplete | No business name and no opt-out in the samples | Write samples as you will send them, including the name and STOP language |
| Public link shorteners | A generic shortened URL in a sample | Use a link on your own domain |
| Website not live or placeholder | A parked page or a coming-soon site | Launch the real site before you register |
| Restricted content | Categories carriers prohibit or restrict | Check the carrier and registry content rules for your industry before registering |
Before you resubmit
- Open your own opt-in page as a stranger would and confirm every required disclosure is visible without scrolling through unrelated text.
- Read your privacy policy and terms for the messaging language, not just the existence of the pages.
- Compare the legal name, address and tax ID across the registration, the website footer and the state business record.
- Rewrite the campaign description and samples so a reviewer who knows nothing about you understands the program.
- Resubmit once with every fix made, rather than one fix at a time.
One business, one registration
Each business needs its own brand and campaign registered under its own legal identity. Reusing another business's registration, even a related one, is a common cause of rejection and a compliance risk for both.
What we do
We build registered, compliant texting engines for businesses, including the registration, the consent flow and the policy language, on the client's own numbers. See the texting engines build.
